<item_type_metadata:function>To fire pottery after it has been shaped. Gas kilns can be used to create different coloured glazes due to their ability to complete an oxidised firing process. This means the potter can control the oxygen within the atmosphere inside the kiln and thus make the flames seek the oxygen in the glaze and in doing so, create a oxidised red colour (if the pots have glazed in certain types of glaze). This is a specialised technique associated with chiness ceramics. </item_type_metadata:function>

<item_type_metadata:conecept>The specialised technique to create rich red glazes was a successful technique implemented by Sue nad her late husband Alec during the 1980s. Although these colours are no longer popular with customers Sure has recently reverted to using the gas kiln over the electric one due to it being more cost efficient. </item_type_metadata:conecept>
