<dc:title>Wooden, Diping-Lug Sailing Boat (replica build)</dc:title>
<dc:description>This replica build Sgoth was commission by Alasdair Smith and built by Mark Stockl (AAS_PR_002). The Sgoth is based on measurements taken from Callicvol, (a Sgoth built by John Murdo Macleod in the 1970’s) but has been lengthened by a foot to create a proportional balance similar to the Jubilee (another Sgoth, renovated by Mark Stockl and used for lesiure sailing by Falmadair). </dc:description>

<item_type_metadata:conecept>Alhtough AAS_AR_0r is an artefact owned by a provate collector, the boats upon which she is designed are under the ownership of Falmadair, an organistion originally set up to work with Comunn Eachdraidh Nis Ness Historical Society to look after 'Jubilee' after her first renovation by John Murdo Macleod in the late 1970s. Her keel was laid by his father, John Finlay Macleod in 1935. Since then Mark Stockl ahas completed a number of restoration projects for the organisation. 'A Sgoth or Sgoth Niseach is a traditional type of clinker built skiff with a dipping lug rig, a Lateen style sail, built mainly in Ness in the Western Isles of Scotland. The boats were used as traditional fishing boats, particularly for line fishing, during the 19th century and until the early half of the twentieth century. ' (Falamdair 2025). This artefact was on display at the AAS RSI and has been scanned by USTAN for VERA. </item_type_metadata:conecept>
