<item_type_metadata:conecept>Melodeon ‘tunes’ differ from area to area of the Western Isles, as do the differing dialects of the Gaelic language. The oral story telling, music and singing at social gatherings or ‘ceilidhs’ are interwoven in how they relate to one another. Many of the songs written for the melodeon were composed by Sailors at sea whilst homesick and traveling away from the islands. </item_type_metadata:conecept>
