<item_type_metadata:technique>Cutting and Mechanical Shaping of Raw Jet:The jet piece is cut with a diamond disc saw, giving it an approximate shape. Then, a tungsten carbide bur or rotary tools are used to define the final shape, removing excess material and refining the details. Finally, the piece is sanded with coarse to fine grit sandpaper to smooth the surface and prepare it for polishing. A silver sheet of the appropriate thickness is chosen for repoussé and setting. The silver sheet is cleaned and cut with a jeweler's saw or shears. The design is transferred onto the silver using a burin or fine punch. A structure is formed in the repoussé silver to hold the jet stone.</item_type_metadata:technique>
